University of Georgia President Jere W. Morehead traveled to South Georgia Sept. 25 to learn more about Georgia's top industry - agriculture - during his annual Farm Tour. The tour's stops highlighted the diversity of the agriculture industry, ranging from the Pure Flavor greenhouse complex in Fort Valley to Premium Peanut in Douglas.
Thanks to its pledge to help farmers use irrigation more efficiently, the University of Georgia’s C.M. Stripling Irrigation Research Park has been included in the Georgia Water Coalition’s 2018 Clean 13 Report.
If this October’s temperatures didn’t have you craving pumpkin spice, you’re not alone. The entire state was about four degrees warmer than normal this year. While the dry, warm weather may have made it hard to celebrate the beginning of fall, it was great for Georgia agriculture, aiding in the harvest of cotton, peanuts and soybeans across the state.
For decades, farmers who have embraced conservation production have seen increased soil health, reduced irrigation demands and lowered economic risk. For the past 17 years, Georgia farmers interested in adopting new conservation practices for their farms – including those looking to swap best practices with other conservation tillers – have gathered at Georgia’s annual Conservation Production Systems Training Conference.
