Back for its fourth semester, the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences' Live from the Lab series will be taking Georgians back inside the college's labs to talk to world-class researchers about their work.

The University of Georgia Tifton campus and the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) are providing high school and college students the opportunity to explore a career in agriculture at the upcoming ShowCAES recruitment event.
UGA mycologist Marin Brewer is using a recent USDA NIFA grant to continue her research of Aspergillus fumigatus, a fungus that is abundant in soil, compost and other organic debris. This fungus can cause serious lung infections in immunocompromised people. Michelle Momany, a professor in the UGA Franklin College of Arts and Sciences Department of Plant Biology, is collaborating with Brewer on this study. CAES News

University of Georgia mycologist Marin Brewer has been awarded close to $500,000 from the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) to search for ways to detect antifungal resistance in a naturally occurring fungus and identify the factors that contribute to its resistance in agricultural environments.

Existing drug could treat aggressive brain cancer 09/10/19 Charlene Betourney
A research team from the University of Georgia’s Regenerative Bioscience Center has found that a compound molecule used for drug delivery of insulin could be used to treat glioblastoma, an aggressive, usually fatal form of brain cancer.

Many students perform better and stretch their available college funding further by spending a year or two close to home at a smaller University System of Georgia institution before transferring to the University of Georgia.
Linden Pederson graduated from UGA in 2019 with degrees in scientific illustration and entomology, but she left behind her sculpture of a giant beetle, Megalodacne heros. The beetle, which is housed in the hallway of the UGA Department of Entomology, took her hundreds of hours to sculpt and is anatomically correct down to the tiniest hair. CAES News
