Saturday at the Rock focuses on native raptors

By Matt Hammons

Is that a red-tailed hawk or a red-shouldered? If you’ve ever had a hard time identifying native raptors, the Saturday, Sept. 15 session of Saturday at the Rock is perfect for you. The Birds of Prey class is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Ga.

First, with binoculars in hand, a trained handler will lead the group on a short, educational walk to identify native birds. Then participants will get an up close and personal look at several of Rock Eagle’s very own raptors. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to observe birds of prey in an intimate setting.

The program will run for two hours after which visitors can tour Rock Eagle’s Natural History Museum. Saturday at the Rock programs are appropriate for all ages and cost $5 per person.

Advanced registration is required. For more information, contact Matt Hammons at (706) 484-2862 or Saturday at the Rock programs take place the third Saturday of each month, excluding December. A complete list of Saturday at the Rock sessions may be found online at:
