Zenglu Li, a professor in soybean breeding, genetics and genomics at the University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), has been named to the Georgia Seed Development Professorship in Soybean Breeding and Genetics.

Judges have selected 30 products to compete in the second and final round of the University of Georgia’s annual Flavor of Georgia Food Product Contest. Narrowed from a field of 117 products, the finalists will compete on April 7 in Athens with an awards ceremony following.

UGA Extension is holding a series of workshops specifically for Georgia grape growers. The classes, set for March 3 in Carrollton, Georgia; March 5 in Dahlonega, Georgia; and March 17 in Ellijay, Georgia, will cover disease and insect control and other critical components of an integrated pest management program for vineyards.

To help curb these statistics, University of Georgia faculty are working to understand the causes of rural stress and to build systems that can help rural communities support community members in crisis.

More than 400 Georgia 4-H youth, leaders and volunteers visited Atlanta for Georgia 4-H Day at the Capitol, sponsored by Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, on Feb. 6 at the Georgia State Capitol Building and the Georgia Freight Depot. This annual leadership and civic-engagement event connects 4-H youth with Georgia legislators, provides students insight to the legislative process and allows them to thank legislators and donors. Georgia 4-H has participated in 4-H Day at the Capitol for more than 30 years.
