FINRA Ketchum Prize
University of Georgia Professor Cesar Escalante has been awarded the 2022 Ketchum Prize — the FINRA Investor Education Foundation’s (FINRA Foundation) highest honor — in recognition of his pioneering research and advocacy to advance financial inclusion and alleviate racial and gender bias in agricultural lending.

In one of Larry Guthrie’s earliest memories, he’s running across a field, proud to show off the bit of milk he’d collected in a dirty, old pail. Despite receiving a scolding from his mother for not using a clean bucket, Guthrie was hooked. As his father’s dairy operation grew, so did his passion for the industry.
Anisa M. Zvonkovic has been named dean of the University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Currently the Harold H. Bate Distinguished Professor and dean of the College of Health and Human Performance at East Carolina University, Zvonkovic will join UGA effective July 1, 2022. CAES News

When University of Georgia peanut pathologist Bob Kemerait does something, he does it wholeheartedly. A passionate advocate for producers both near his academic home at the University of Georgia Tifton campus and around the world, Kemerait describes himself as “a field guy,” most comfortable among the rows detecting, diagnosing and addressing the myriad diseases and pests that threaten Georgia’s second-largest row crop.
Robin Buell, who recently joined the faculty in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences as the GRA Eminent Scholar Chair in Crop Genomics, has been at the forefront of genomic research, having been involved in sequencing the first plant genome, Arabidopsis, and the first crop genome, rice. 2022 McClintock Prize
University of Georgia plant geneticist Robin Buell has been selected as the recipient of the 2022 McClintock Prize by the Maize Genetics Cooperation (MGC) Advocacy Committee (MGAC) for her groundbreaking work in plant genome structure, function and evolution.
Francis Fluharty, who joined UGA as head of the Department of Animal and Dairy Science at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in 2018, has been appointed to serve as a subject extern examiner for the University College of Dublin’s School of Agriculture and Food Science in Ireland. Alfredo Espinoza-Martinez received the 2021 Excellence in Extension award from the American Phytopathological Society for his work in Extension focusing on disease management in turfgrass, as well as working with small grains and non-legume forages. CAES News

For Alfredo Martinez-Espinoza, this has come true through his work as a plant pathologist with University of Georgia Cooperative Extension. His passion and hard work have been recognized with the American Phytopathological Society’s (APS) 2021 Excellence in Extension award.
