The University of Georgia Tifton campus invites high school and college students to ShowCAES 2018, an annual recruitment event that educates students and their parents about admission requirements and academic programs that are offered by UGA’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES).

The event will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center. A free meal will be provided for those who attend.

UGA-Tifton offers four undergraduate programs: agribusiness, agricultural education, agriscience and environmental systems, and biological science; and two graduate programs: agricultural and environmental education (MAEE) and plant protection and pest management (MPPPM), all part of CAES.

“What this event allows us to do is inform the south Georgia community about what UGA and CAES have to offer to potential students —whether they plan to attend our campus in Athens, Griffin or Tifton, said Katie Murray, UGA-Tifton student recruiter.

Students and families who attend this event will learn about the specific academic programs offered by CAES, their financial aid opportunities and the admissions process for UGA — as first-year students, transfer students or graduate students.

“Perhaps most importantly, they’ll be able to interact with current students and faculty members to find out what life is really like on one of our three campuses,” she said.

UGA-Tifton senior Lucas Brock, a student ambassador and agriculture education major from Bowdon, Georgia, will be on hand to talk with potential students.

“I think ShowCAES is an important event for allowing students all over Georgia to get exposure, not only to campus, but to the different departments that are involved within CAES,” Brock said. “You have a chance to develop that personal connection with the researchers and the professors that are on our campus.”

According to junior agriscience and environmental systems major Shelby Sangster, ShowCAES was a huge factor in her decision to attend UGA-Tifton. The Pineview, Georgia, native attended the event as a junior and senior in high school and came back during her first year of college.

“ShowCAES was very important. I was able to see what UGA and UGA-Tifton offers — the majors, the professors, the clubs. It was a big factor in my decision for school because not many places are as open as UGA-Tifton was about their majors. They had the actual professors there to talk to you,” Sangster said. “It was obvious to me that they placed a huge importance on their academic programs.”
