Project raises funds for 4-H, increases subscriptions to ag publication

By Capri Martinez

The Georgia Department of Agriculture and Georgia 4-H have joined forces to increase subscriptions to the Farmers and Consumers Market Bulletin while raising funds for Georgia 4-H clubs.

The Farmers and Consumers Market Bulletin, a biweekly publication, was founded in 1917. It provides Georgia’s agriculture community a place to advertise, educate and network. Through the bulletin’s classified advertising, members of the agriculture community can buy or sell agriculture products ranging from horses to chickens or blueberry plants to vegetable seeds.

Georgia residents can receive 26 issues of the printed publication for a yearly fee of $10. The annual fee for out-of-state residents is $20.

From Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, through Saturday, March 31, 2012, participating 4-H clubs will earn $2 for every subscription sold. The final deadline for all county fundraiser subscriptions to be reported to the Bulletin office is Thursday, April 5, 2012.

The University of Georgia Cooperative Extension office whose 4-H club sells the most subscriptions will be rewarded with a visit from Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black. The commissioner will attend an annual banquet or other prominent event of the club’s choice.

For more information on how to participate in the subscription fundraiser, contact your local UGA Extension office at 1-800-ASK-UGA1 or Andrea Burruss in the State 4-H Office at 706-542-4H4H.
