Washington D.C. event to celebrate global food security, UGA

An event scheduled for next week in Washington D.C. will highlight the innovation labs’ role in global food security and the University of Georgia’s part in that work.

The University of Georgia hosts two of the U.S. government’s two dozen innovation labs for cooperative research. The labs, which are headquartered at land-grant universities across the U.S., bring together scientists in the U.S. and partner countries to address challenges in agriculture, nutrition, climate resiliency and other areas.

The Feed the Future Peanut Lab, which was awarded a five-year contract in January, is the first lab funded under the Global Food Security Act, which passed in 2015 and is up for renewal this year.

Allison Floyd is the PR coordinator for the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Peanut, which is headquartered at UGA.
