You don't have to have a pond to have a water garden. On "The Georgia Gardener" Aug. 12, host Walter Reeves visits with David Robinson at Atlanta Water Gardens to talk about making a water garden in a container.

Any container that holds water will do, Robinson says. He shows how put in support the pots, put in plants and fertilize them for a beautiful water garden.
Reeves and University of Georgia horticulturist Wayne McLaurin also show how to build a simple compost bin out of fence wire. Compost is important for a soil-rich garden.
Reeves shows how to do maintenance pruning of shrubs and trees, too. He demonstrates a new pruner and tells why trees and shrubs sometimes need pruning in the summer.
The Georgia Gardener is a show designed specifically for Georgians. It airs at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays and is rebroadcast at 10 a.m. Saturdays on GPTV.
The show is a production of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and PFC Holding Company.
