Georgia summers will almost always have hot, dry periods, and conserving water will always be important. Next on "The Georgia Gardener," host Walter Reeves talks with University of Georgia horticulturist Gary Wade about xeris caping.

Wade identifies some water-stretching landscape plants. He shows how to save water by matching the plant to the planting site. And he tells how to learn more about xeriscaping.

On the same show, which airs July 8 and 10 on Georgia Public Television, Helen Phillips of Callaway Gardens will show how she recycled a piece of 8 inch PVC pipe into a plant tower. And Parker Andes of Callaway Gardens will show some of the virtues of oakleaf hydrangea.

"The Georgia Gardener" is designed especially for Georgia gardeners. It airs Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m. on GPTV.

The show is a production of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and PFC Holding Company.

Dan Rahn is a news editor with the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
