Camden County hosts green industry update

By Merritt Melancon

Camden and Glynn county Extension agents will host a green industry update and workshop for professional landscapers from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. August 28.

Robbie Edalgo and Don Gardner, Camden and Glynn county extension agents, will discuss what to expect from turf when mild winters occur and give a closer look of the uptake of primary nutrients by turfgrass.

“We’ve tried to tie the topics to the dormant season and the winter months,” Edalgo said. “Basically we’re going to talk about some the issues we see when we have a mild winter, like we did this past winter.”

A Georgia Department of Agriculture field agent will also give a presentation on how to prepare for and pass a state pesticide inspection. A representative of Phillips Turf and Ornamental will give an update on the company’s new products.

The workshop will be held at the Ship2Shore restaurant at 1947 Commerce Dr. Kingsland, Ga. The workshop cost $15 per attendee, which includes lunch, the program and two continuing education hours for those maintaining a category 24 ornamental and turf pesticide certification. Space is limited to the first 40 registrants.

Those interested in registering should mail a $15 check to the Camden County Extension office at P.O. Box 309, Woodbine, Ga. 31569.

For more information call Edalgo at (912) 576-3219 or email jredalgo@uga.edu.
