Visit Rock Eagle 4-H Center and learn about honeybees

Did you know that a hive of honeybees have to visit 2 million flowers to make one pound of honey?

Spend Saturday, May 19, at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Ga., and explore the fascinating life of this incredible insect.

Visitors will learn about bee biology and pollination using live examples from Rock Eagle’s hives.

“I love taking people out to our bee hives to get a closer view of an actual hive in action,” said Rock Eagle Program Specialist and honeybee enthusiast Becky Collins.

Participants will also taste honey made onsite by Rock Eagle bees. Guests are asked to wear light-colored clothing, long sleeves, long pants and closed toe shoes. Veils will be provided.

This session of Saturday at the Rock is appropriate for all ages and costs $5 per person. The program will run from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Rock Eagle’s Natural History Museum will be open to participants following the program.

Advanced registration is required. For more information or to register, contact Matt Hammons at (706) 484-2862 or mhammons@uga.edu.

Saturday at the Rock programs are held the third Saturday of each month, excluding December. View a complete list of Saturday at the Rock sessions at www.rockeagle4h.org/ee/community/SaturdayattheRock.html.
