Do you know a conservation-minded farmer?

By Brad Haire

Governor Nathan Deal and Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Gary Black are now accepting nominations for the 7th annual Governor’s Agricultural Environmental Stewardship Award, which champions producers who incorporate conservation and best management practices into the day-to-day activities of their farms, protecting the state’s natural resources.

A five-member selection committee comprised of representatives from across the state select a winner from each of the five regions in the state. A statewide winner is then selected following a tour of each of the operations selected as regional winners.

At the 9th annual Agriculture Week kick-off March 13, 2012, Deal and Black will recognize all district winners and announce the state winner.

Award applications are available at agribusiness.georgiainnovation.org and are due by December 16, 2011. For more information, call Steven Meeks at (912) 207-0813 or Sarah Cook at (229) 391-6882.
