Eat bugs, pet tarantulas at UGA Insect Zoo

Chocolate-covered bugs, mealworm cookies and cricket-spitting contests are taking the spotlight again for the 25th annual Insect Zoo at the University of Georgia. The zoo will take place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 2 in room 426 of UGA’s Biological Sciences Building in Athens, Ga.

The zoo will feature live and pinned insects and arthropods from Georgia and abroad. A Guinness world record cricket spitting contest will be held at 1 p.m. and will be refereed by a UGA student who trained to be a Guinness-certified judge.

Other events include a dunking booth, roach races, arts and crafts and a raffle.

The Insect Zoo is sponsored by the H.O. Lund Entomology Club and the UGA Department of Entomology. For more information, contact Marianne Robinette at 706-542-1238 or visit www.ent.uga.edu/insectzoo.
