Georgia Organics conference in Athens Feb. 19-20

Anyone who wants to learn more about organic agriculture, food or see a sustainable farm in action should attend the 13th annual Georgia Organics Conference and Expo in Athens, Ga., Feb. 19-20.

The conference, this year titled “Reclaiming Agriculture,” will include workshops taught by University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences faculty as well as other individuals. Topics include labor, livestock, weed management, medicinal plants, insects, engines, cheese, composting and marketing. Farm tours will also be available.

“Interest in do-it-yourself and local food production has grown tremendously,” said Georgia Organics executive director Alice Rolls. “This new interest, along with the hard work of Georgia’s sustainable farmers, growers and ranchers, is propelling Georgia’s good food movement to new highs.”

Last year’s conference drew 1,100 attendees, its largest crowd ever, from 14 states and from nearly every Georgia county.
