Spring planting fever is here. Gardeners looking to add a dwarf cedar, a passionflower or other plants to their collections should stop by the annual University of Georgia Horticulture Club’s plant sale starting April 4 in Athens, Ga.
The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5 and 11-12 and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 6 and 13. It will be at the corner of College Station Road and Riverbend Road.
“We’ll be selling ornamental trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, groundcovers and vines,” said student Sean Bloszies, “along with a number of drought-tolerant selections.”
Plants featured at the sale will be dog hobble, a shade plant for moist sites; Black Dragon Japanese cedar, a dwarf cultivar; Henry Lauder’s walkingstick; and a banana shrub with old fashioned, sweet smelling flowers, he said.
Drought-tolerant plants at the sale will be variegated yucca, moss rose, sedums like Autumn Joy and Frosty Morn and agave americana, also known as century plant.
Plants are available on a first-come basis. Students and faculty will be there to answer questions.
