Insectival = bug-filled festival

University of Georgia

You don't have to be a contestant on a TV reality show to get up close and personal with Madagascar hissing cockroaches.

All that and more awaits you at the University of Georgia's annual Insectival Saturday, Sept. 23, from 9:30 a.m. until noon at the Botanical Garden in Athens, Ga.

A typical event includes toddlers holding giant millipedes, bug races and lots of fun, educational events. In keeping with this year's focus on flying insects, the 11th Insectival will include a butterfly release.

Entry fees are $2 per person or $8 for a family. Children under two years are admitted free.

The UGA Insectival is sponsored by the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, the UGA Department of Entomology's H.O. Lund Entomology Club, the Georgia Museum of Natural History, Athens First Bank and Trust, and Jackson Electric Membership Corporation.
