University of Georgia
Adding a water garden, complete with colorful goldfish and koi, to your home landscape may sound like a good idea. But, just like traditional gardens, a water garden must be tended.
To make sure water gardeners start with the right information, the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension is offering a one-day class on fish management in water gardens.
The class is set for Tuesday, May 16, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the UGA campus in Tifton, Ga. It will meet in the Aquaculture Unit.
UGA aquaculture expert Gary Burtle, an associate professor with the UGA College of Agricultural and Environment Sciences, will lead the class, which will cover types of fish, introducing fish into a pond, diseases of koi and goldfish, feeding and fish behavior, pond water quality and pond features.
This training is designed for novice and experienced water gardeners and those who advise pond owners. The cost is $20, which includes class materials and lunch.
Participants must preregister by May 12 by calling Burtle at (229) 386-3364 or emailing him at gburtle@uga.edu. For more information on the class, see the UGA aquaculture program's Web site at www.cpes.peachnet.edu/aquaculture.
