'Georgia Gardener' Gets Into Fall Planting

People are more likely to think of planting in the spring. But on "The Georgia Gardener" Oct. 21 and 23, host Walter Reeves shows the best way to plant a tree -- in the fall.

Reeves shows how to dig a proper hole, fertilize and plant a tree in your landscape this fall. He demonstrates products that make watering easier and shows how to prune the new tree and how to finish the job with mulch.

Then he moves to the vegetable garden. Reeves shows how to plant some fall crops and get a jump on others for harvest in the spring.

Finally, Reeves checks out a test he planted a few weeks ago. He put several plants -- aggressive horticultural thugs, he calls them -- close to each other to see which one would overcome the others. And he finds an invading thug he hadn't counted on.

"The Georgia Gardener" is designed especially for Georgia gardeners. It airs on GPTV at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 10 a.m. on Saturdays. The show is produced by the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and PFC Holding Company.
