Learn about lawns on next 'Gardening in Georgia'

In spite of the Easter weekend freeze, many Georgia lawns "know" it's spring and are coming back to life. Some people aren't sure what kind of grass grows in their lawn. Knowing what kind of turf you have is the key to making the right care choices that produce a great-looking lawn.

On the April 19 and 21 "Gardening in Georgia with Walter Reeves," visit the University of Georgia's Center for Urban Agriculture in Griffin, Ga., to find out all about lawns. UGA turf expert Clint Waltz will show how to identify Georgia turf grasses. Reeves will show how to level damaged lawns.

"Gardening in Georgia" usually airs on GPB stations across Georgia each Thursday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 12:30 and 6:30 p.m. However, the April 19 episode could be preempted by coverage of the Georgia General Assembly.

On this week's show, viewers will also learn about transplanting azaleas. They'll get the lowdown distinguishing different kinds of bulbs. And they'll learn how to kill weeds, not their flowers, with herbicide shields.

"Gardening in Georgia" is coproduced by Georgia Public Broadcasting and the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Georgia gardening guru and retired UGA Cooperative Extension agent Walter Reeves hosts the show. Each episode features gardening information specific to Georgia soils, climate and growing conditions.

The show's 2007 season is made possible through an underwriting gift from McCorkle Nurseries and support from the Metro Atlanta Landscape and Turf Association.
