Billies, nannies and the like

University of Georgia

If you love goats or you're just curious about goats' milk, meat or other products, the 2006 Goat-A-Rama was planned just for you. More than 1,000 goat enthusiasts are expected to attend the event Saturday, April 8, in Tennille, Ga.

The ninth Goat-A-Rama will begin at the Washington County Farm Bureau Ag Center at 9 a.m. It will end by 4 p.m. The event will include educational seminars, demonstrations and vendor exhibits.

Admission is free, and door prizes will be given. For directions, or more information, contact the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension office in Washington County at (478) 552-2011. Or send an e-mail to info@goat-a-rama.com.

There will be a chevon, or goat meat, cooking demonstration. Goat barbecue will be served, too, as well as other foods.

Breeding stock will be available for sale. And for a donation, you can enter a raffle for a registered Kiko buck. (These meat-goat males have long, usually white hair and long, twisting horns.)

Will Getz of Fort Valley State University will present an update on small ruminant research. Lisa Williamson of the University of Georgia will discuss "worm warfare." And the Georgia Dairy Goat Breeders Association will have a demonstration on goat care.

The event is co-sponsored by UGA Extension, Washington County Meat Goat Association, Washington County Farm Bureau, Sunbelt Goat Producers Cooperative and AgGeorgia Farm Credit.
