Garden Exchange set for Saturday, Oct. 11

You may be tempted to thin your perennial plants this fall and throw the extras away. But don't. Use them like currency and swap them with fellow gardeners at the first ever Garden Exchange.

The Garden Exchange is a perennial exchange event plannted by the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The event is set for Saturday, Oct. 11 from 8 a.m. until noon in four locations across the metro-Atlanta area: the Cobb Extension Service office in Marietta, Gwinnett Technical College in Lawrenceville, the UGA Research and Education Garden in Griffin and the Master Gardener Garden in Douglasville.

Gardeners who want to participate in the exchange should bring healthy, clean plants that are bundled for easy separation. The plants should also be labeled with the plant variety name and the bloom color, if applicable.

But what if you don't have plants to exchange? You can still participate as new plants will be available for sale at each location.

You can also get advice from UGA CAES experts and Master Gardeners who will be on hand to answer your gardening questions. Each participant will also receive a copy of the AJC's Home and Garden section which is now published each Friday.
