Georgia Organics conference includes UGA, other southern college experts

Registration is still open for the 2014 Georgia Organics Conference set for Feb. 21 – 22 on Jekyll Island, Ga.

The two-day conference is one of the largest sustainable agriculture expos in the South. This year’s conference, Green Acres – Saving the Planet one Bite at a Time, focuses on agriculture’s impact on the environment and how organic farming restores natural resources.

Thirty-two educational sessions and 11 in-depth workshops will be presented by experts from UGA Extension, Auburn University, Clemson University, Ft. Valley State University, Oxford College – Emory University, University of Florida and Virginia State University. Numerous organic farmers will also present, as will experts from the Georgia Department of Agriculture and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Ken Cook of the Environmental Working Group will be the conference guest speaker.

“The connection between farming and the environment could not be more important," Cook said. "Managing land and growing food is a humbling and awesome responsibility, and as natural resources are increasingly under siege, how we grow will determine how we resolve these challenges.
