Beef cattle short course Aug. 25 in south Georgia

University of Georgia

The 2005 Southeast Georgia Beef Cattle Short Course will be Aug. 25 at the Canoochee Forage Bull Development Center between Claxton and Glennville, Ga.

The course will begin outside with a live animal evaluation and ultrasound demonstrations. University of Georgia faculty members will also address body condition scoring in the field and adjusting cattle rations.

Later indoor sessions will focus NAIS (the National Animal Identification System) and record-keeping, forages, cattle marketing and farm programs. Associate State Veterinarian Dr. Carter Black will provide an update on agrosecurity and agroterrorism issues and concerns.

Lunch will be provided, and a $5 fee covers all other costs. Preregister by Aug. 18 to enable sponsors to provide enough lunch for everybody. The Canoochee Center is 8 miles south of Claxton and 7 miles north of Glennville on the east side of U.S. Highway 301.

Get registration forms at your UGA Cooperative Extension county office or on the Web at www.ugabeef.org. Or call (912-681-5639) or e-mail (twwilson@uga.edu) UGA Extension animal scientist Tim Wilson.
