Veggies, Peaches on 'Gardening' June 15

"Gardening in Georgia" ( www.gardeningingeorgia.com) is produced by the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and GPTV. It airs twice each Saturday, at noon and 7 p.m.

This week, the tomatoes are up, and the squash is growing fast. Reeves advises on managing some of the vegetables he planted in an earlier show at the UGA Research and Education Garden in Griffin.

Buggy Peaches

CAES entomologist Dan Horton tells how hard it can be to control insects in peaches. He describes some integrated pest management (IPM) techniques you can use to grow backyard peaches. Horton recommends the UGA publication, "2002 Disease and Insect IPM in the Home Orchard."

Wayne McLaurin, a CAES horticulturist, tells all about growing watermelons in your home garden. He tells the best varieties to plant and how to coax the tastiest melons from them.

Finally, you may have heard that when someone gives you a florist azalea, it won't survive and flower if you plant it outside. But Reeves says it will -- if you give it special care during the first critical year after you plant it.
