June Camps Focus on Farm Youths' Safety

Life isn't always safe on the farm. Children who live or work there face unique safety risks. To help them avoid getting hurt, the Georgia Healthy Farmers Program will offer two camps this summer.

The Tractor Certification Camp is a 15-hour course that meets Georgia Department of Labor guidelines. For ages 14 to 15, it's set for June 10-13 at the State FFA/FHA Camp in Covington, Ga.

The Farm Safety Camp is for children 10 to 13 years old. Also at the FFA/FHA camp, it's scheduled for June 17-20. The camp offers classes in animal, equipment and personal safety, including introductory CPR.

The cost is $60 for each, or $75 after June 1. Some scholarships are available. To learn more about the camps or scholarships, or to get an application, call Nancy Fussell at 1-800-367-9083. Or call Judy Hartley at (912) 370-2617.
